Mr Derek Sherwood

Mr. Derek Sherwood, MBChB(Otago) FRCS(Ed), FRANZCO , Ophthalmologist

Born and raised in Nelson Derek trained at Otago Medical School and then did Ophthalmology training in the UK.

Derek has special interests in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Corneal Disease and Surgery.

Derek has a keen interest in Healthcare management and in the efficient delivery of quality Eye Healthcare.
Derek is the current chair of the NZ Branch of RANZCO and serves on the RANZCO Council.
Derek is a trustee of Vision 2020 and is a former chair of the Save Sight Society.


Mr Mike Roberts

Mr. Mike Roberts, MBChB FRACS , Otolaryngology, H&N Surgery (2000)

Member: NZSORL, Australasian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgeons
(AAFPS).
Consultant with Nelson Marlborough District Health Board, providing a district wide service to Nelson and Wairau (Blenheim) Hospitals.
After completing his medical degree in Otago/Christchurch, Mike spent time in Perth (Western Australia), Christchurch and Tauranga gaining experience in a variety of surgical specialities, before undertaking advanced surgical training in Otolaryngology (ENT) in Wellington, Otago and Christchurch.
Two years consultant work in Edinburgh were followed by a return to Nelson.
Mike’s areas of special interest are Paediatric ENT, General Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Sleep/Snoring medicine and Facial Plastics.


Mr Sean Chan

Mr. Sean Chan, MBChB FRACS , Otolaryngology

Sean is a fully accredited Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgery, a member of the Australian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, and the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
Sean’s areas of particular interest include:

  • Functional and cosmetic facial surgery
  • Skin cancer of the head and neck
  • Nasal disorders and sinus disease
  • Salivary gland disease
  • Paediatric ENT
  • Non-surgical facial rejuvenation e.g. Botox and Collgen

Mr. Antony Suter, MBChB FRACS , Ophthalmologist

Dr Antony Suter finished his medical training at the Otago School of Medicine in 1993, travelled
and worked as a doctor in New Zealand and England, before commencing training in Ophthalmology
in 1996. He completed his Ophthalmology specialist training in Dunedin and Christchurch
in 2004, and worked briefly in Nelson before completing a further 2 years of fellowships
in the UK in cataract, glaucoma, paediatrics and medical retina. Upon returning to New Zealand
in 2006, he took up a Consultant Ophthalmologist position in Nelson, and consults and operates
both in private practice and at Nelson Public Hospital. His areas of interest include glaucoma,
cataract and strabismus surgery but he enjoys caring for people with the wide range of different
eye disorders that are seen. He has three sons, and enjoys the beautiful
Nelson and Tasman outdoors whenever possible.


Mr. Paul RosserMr. Paul Rosser

Mr. Paul Rosser, MBChB, FRANZCO , Ophthalmologist

Paul is a sub-specialist eye surgeon, with an emphasis on oculoplastic
(eyelid surgery), lacrimal (tear duct) and orbital surgery. In addition, he is
an experienced cataract surgeon and has been performing laser refractive
surgery since 1997, specialising in LASIK.
Paul has a special interest in:

  • Ptosis
  • Entropion
  • Ectropion
  • Blepharoplasty
  • Surgery for facial palsy

Mr. Christopher Adams

Mr. Christopher Adams, MBChB, FRACS

Chris Adams is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon. Chris graduated from
Otago Medical School in 1990 and subsequently trained in plastic and reconstructive
surgery in Auckland, Hamilton, and Wellington. He became a fellow
of the Royal College of Australasian Surgeons (FRACS) in 2001
In addition to general plastic and reconstructive surgery, Chris has a specialist
interest in:

  • aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery of the face, breast and trunk
  • reconstructive breast surgery
  • surgery for melanoma and skin cancers
  • burn reconstruction and hand surgery.

Mr. Sacha Moore, BMBCh (Oxon), MA (Cantab), FRCOphth , Ophthalmologist

Consultant Ophthalmologist Nelson Marlborough District Health Board providing service to Nelson and Wairau Hospitals.Trained in the UK at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities, Sacha has specialist interest in advanced cataract and refractive surgery, cornea and anterior segment, age related macula degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

Sacha has completed Three separate international advanced fellowship training years in Cataract and Refractive Surgery (Adelaide, Australia), Cornea and Anterior Segment surgery (Auckland, NZ) and Medical Retina (Auckland, NZ).
